Lisbon Oceanarium (Oceanário de Lisboa) 

The Lisbon Oceanarium, located in the Parque das Nações district, is one of the largest aquariums in Europe and a leading center for marine conservation and education. Opened in 1998 for the World Expo, the Oceanarium houses more than 8,000 marine animals representing over 450 species from oceans around the world. 

The centerpiece of the Oceanarium is its giant central tank, home to sharks, rays, and schools of fish, surrounded by four thematic habitats representing the North Atlantic, Antarctic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans. Visitors can explore exhibits featuring penguins, sea otters, colorful reef fish, and exotic invertebrates, all designed to educate about marine ecosystems and biodiversity. 

The Oceanarium also emphasizes conservation and sustainability, with interactive displays and educational programs highlighting the challenges facing oceans today. Its architecture, designed by Peter Chermayeff, provides open viewing galleries and immersive experiences that allow visitors to feel surrounded by the marine world.
